I would like to share with you this piece. The DoP Paul Lilley created this video for The Camara Crewing Company, which specializes in high speed cinematography, demonstrating the versatility and creativity of the Phantom HD Gold.
The Pantom HD Gold can record up to 1000 frames per second with an HD (1920×1080) or 2K (2048×1536) resolution, it has al 14-bit depth sensor and uses 35mm lenses.
Hopefully, I’ll soon have the oportunity to test this amazing camara.

Last week we shot in Palma de Mallorca, but this time around was special. Our production company, Kamel Films, was in charge of the project: two TV spots for USP Palmaplanas hospital. They are the first ones Kamel Madrid produces and the truth is that we are very pleased with the materials. We have assembled a fantastic team of professionals and this is reflected in the result. We got great footage that we are tuning for maximum quality and the outcome is looking incredible.

I have been very fortunate to be working once again with director Hatem Khraiche. Hatem envisions exactly what he wants on screen, is very resolute on set, and his visual language is tremendously powerful, he rocks! He has just joined Kamel as director and I am sure that soon his name will be widely known in the advertising and film industry.

La semana pasada tocó rodar en Palma de Mallorca, pero esta vez era especial, nuestra productora Kamel Films se hacia cargo del proyecto. Son dos spots para TV del hospital USP PALMAPLANAS. Son los primeros que Kamel Madrid produce y  la verdad es que estamos muy contentos con el material. Nos hemos rodeado de grandes profesionales y eso se ve reflejado en el resultado. Tenemos un material muy bueno y estamos afinando en post para obtener la máxima calidad,  la verdad es que están quedando increíbles.

He tenido la suerte de volver a rodar con Hatem Khraiche, Hatem visualiza muy bien lo que quiere,  tiene las cosas muy claras cuando llega a set, y su lenguaje visual es muy potente, !Es un crack!. Es el nuevo fichaje de Kamel y estoy seguro de que dentro de poco su nombre va a sonar mucho tanto en publicidad como en ficción.

Last week I went into a new adventure as cinematographer for the short film “La Migala”, directed by Jaime Dezcallar. It is a terror and unfulfilled love story based on a short tale written by Juan José Arreola. We shared set with a bird spider for four days, it was really fun and exciting!

We shot with the Mínima Luz‘s Red One using Cooke S4 lenses. We also used a steadycam and a crane that allowed us to gain dynamism for several cool shots. Now it’s Post production time and we have good material to work with. I’m sure it will perform very well on the Festival Circuit. I can’t wait to start the color correctión process and feeling the audience reaction to the 35mm film projection.

La semana pasada me adentre en una nueva aventura como director de fotografía del cortometraje “La migala”, del director Jaime Dezcallar. Es una historia de terror sobre el desamor, y esta basada en el relato de Juan José Arreola. Entre medias una enorme tarántula con la que compartimos set durante cuatro días, fue realmente divertido y emocionante.

Rodamos con la Red One de Mínima luz y lentes Cooke S4. Utilizamos steadycam y cabeza caliente, sacamos planos realmente bonitos. Ahora toca trabajar en la post producción, tenemos un buen material y estoy seguro que funcionara genial por el circuito festivalero. Estoy deseando entrar en corrección de color, ver proyección en 35mm y sentir las reacciones del público.

A very good friend of mine, Rodrigo Ruiz-Tarazona, invited me to the shooting of the TV series “Los Protegidos“. After its great success in Antena 3, they decided to shoot the first chapter of the second season in 3D, and it will be release in Theaters as well as in the TV.

It was amazing being there and watch the result in the 3D monitor! They are using the D4D technology, and with the participation of David Urdanoz, one of the Masters and pioneers of the 3D in Europe. They made me feel very comfortable there, and besides, I learnt a lot with that 3D Masterclass. Thanks guys. You rock!

Un buen amigo, Rodrigo Ruiz-Tarazona, me invitó a visitar el rodaje de “Los Protegidos“. Tras su tremendo éxito en Antena 3 la temporada pasada, han comenzado el rodaje de la segunda con el gran aliciente de que están rodando en 3D estereoscópico el primer capítulo de la temporada, y que se estrenara en las salas de cine con éxito asegurado.

Lo que pude ver con mis ojos en el nuevo monitor 3D para rodaje era alucinante!. Cuentan con la tecnología de D4D Ingeniería Visual y con la participación en rodaje de David Urdánoz , uno de los maestros y pioneros de la estereoscopia en Europa, que ademas me dio una clase magistral entre risas y buen humor. Muchas gracias a los dos por la invitación.

Yes, we support Atletico de Madrid. We like suffer a little bit but we have a lot of faith. Some time ago we were lucky to shoot a small project for Sra. Rushmore, that is the publicity agency that makes all the creativity for Atletico commercials, and they are just amazing. Some day we will shoot with them wearing the red & white t-shirt. Go Atleti!!!

Sí, somos del Atleti. Luchadores, sufridores y con mucha, mucha fe. Hace tiempo tuvimos la suerte de trabajar en un proyecto pequeñito para la Agencia Sra. Ruhsmore que es la encargada de llevar a cabo toda la creatividad de las campañas de promoción del Atleti y que son una autentica maravilla. Algún día rodaremos con ellos vestidos de rojiblancos. Aupa Atleti!!!

We love dreaming. That’s why when Fran Guijarro told me the story of I WISH, I took a plane and flew to San Francisco to shoot it. We believed that the story was amazing and we dreamed with winning an award one day, and to have Moses picking it up.

Fran worked hard to obtain Moses’ passport as well as the plane ticket to fly him to Spain. He got it, but the Iceland Volcano did not let us fulfill Moses’ wish. We are very persistent, and we know that very soon Moses will be flying to pick up another one. Thanks Fran for starting this project and for letting us be part of it.

Nos encanta soñar. Por eso, cuando Fran Guijarro me contó la historia de I WISH, no me lo pensé dos veces y volé a San Francisco a rodarla. Creíamos que la historia era increíble y soñamos con algún día ganar algún premio y poder llevar a Moses a recogerlo.

Fran ha trabajado realmente duro para conseguirle el pasaporte a Moses, así como sacarle el billete de avión a Madrid, pero cuando todo estaba listo, el volcán Islandés nos impidió volar y dejar que Moses cumpliera ese sueño. Somos muy cabezones y sabemos que en breve Moses volará a recoger algún otro. Mil gracias Fran por hacernos partícipes de todo esto.

Last week, in the second channel of Telemadrid (La Otra), it showed an interview with us talking about our short film Basket Bronx. This happened because our film won the Telemadrid Award in the 2009 Madrid Film Week. It is was fun, because the interview was made in Madrid, and to simulate an atmosphere like the Bronx in New York, they brought us to a basketball court in Carabanchel, our neighborhood.

La semana pasada, pusieron en el segundo canal de Telemadrid (La Otra), una entrevista que nos hicieron sobre nuestro corto Basket Bronx. Esto lo hicieron por el premio Telemadrid que ganamos en La Semana de Cine de Madrid el año pasado. Fue realmente divertido, porque la entrevista la hicimos en Madrid y para simular un ambiente como el del Bronx en Nueva York, nos llevaron a una cancha de baloncesto de nuestro barrio, en Carabanchel.

The last week of the shooting of Brutalbox has started. My first feature film as a Cinematographer is bringing me great experiences. I am surrounded by very professional people who are really into the project, and that inspires me to give my best. Besides, I can feel that a set is my natural habitat. Here is the place where I enjoy more and I feel more confident.

Comienza la última semana de rodaje de Brutalbox. Mi primer largometraje como Director de fotografía está siendo una gran experiencia. Estoy rodeado de gente muy profesional y volcada en el proyecto y eso siempre te inspira a dar lo mejor de tí. Además estoy confirmando que el set es mi habitat natural. El sitio en el que me siento más seguro y donde más disfruto.

I have to admit it; I have vertigo. If I get up to a certain height and I look down I feel sick. But the good news is that all those phobias disappear when I put my eye in the viewfinder of the camera. When I am shooting, even if I am high in a crane, I am all day having fun, as a little child, and ask them to go higher and higher as if I was in an amusement park; Like in this photo in the beach of Cadiz, when we were shooting a commercial in 35mm for Doblezero. How much fun will be waiting for us? How much to learn and keep going up…

Lo reconozco: Tengo vértigo. Si me subo a una altura y miro hacia abajo me mareo. Pero la buena noticia es que todas esas fobias desaparecen cuando pongo el ojo en el visor de la cámara. Cuándo estoy rodando, aunque esté en la grúa no hago más que disfrutar como un niño pequeño, y pido que suba más y más alto como si estuviera en un parque de atraciones. Como en esta foto que nos tomaron en las playas de Cadiz mientras rodabamos un spot en 35mm para la productora Doblezero. Cuánto nos queda por disfrutar y aprender. Cuánto por seguir subiendo…
