Last week I went into a new adventure as cinematographer for the short film “La Migala”, directed by Jaime Dezcallar. It is a terror and unfulfilled love story based on a short tale written by Juan José Arreola. We shared set with a bird spider for four days, it was really fun and exciting!

We shot with the Mínima Luz’s Red One using Cooke S4 lenses. We also used a steadycam and a crane that allowed us to gain dynamism for several cool shots. Now it’s Post production time and we have good material to work with. I’m sure it will perform very well on the Festival Circuit. I can’t wait to start the color correctión process and feeling the audience reaction to the 35mm film projection.

La semana pasada me adentre en una nueva aventura como director de fotografía del cortometraje “La migala”, del director Jaime Dezcallar. Es una historia de terror sobre el desamor, y esta basada en el relato de Juan José Arreola. Entre medias una enorme tarántula con la que compartimos set durante cuatro días, fue realmente divertido y emocionante.

Rodamos con la Red One de Mínima luz y lentes Cooke S4. Utilizamos steadycam y cabeza caliente, sacamos planos realmente bonitos. Ahora toca trabajar en la post producción, tenemos un buen material y estoy seguro que funcionara genial por el circuito festivalero. Estoy deseando entrar en corrección de color, ver proyección en 35mm y sentir las reacciones del público.

Many times has happened to me that someone after watching our films told us: “you are such an artist”, and I looked down denying ashamed like an ostrich; well that won’t happen to me again, because now it is the Government of United States that gave me an Artist Visa…haha Just kidding. The truth is that I am really happy with this opportunity and I will do my best during these 3 years working hard in order to follow my dreams. Signed: An Artist!

Muchas veces me ha pasado que alguien después de ver nuestros trabajos nos ha dicho: “sois unos artistas”, y yo bajaba la cabeza avergonzado como una avestruz; bien, pues eso no volverá a suceder, porque ahora es el mismísimo gobierno americano el que me ha concedido el visado de artista…jeje Era broma, lo que sí es cierto es que estoy super contento por esta oportunidad, e intentaré aprovechar al máximo estos 3 años para trabajar duro en seguir cumpliendo sueños. A very good friend of mine, Rodrigo Ruiz-Tarazona, invited me to the shooting of the TV series “Los Protegidos“. After its great success in Antena 3, they decided to shoot the first chapter of the second season in 3D, and it will be release in Theaters as well as in the TV.

It was amazing being there and watch the result in the 3D monitor! They are using the D4D technology, and with the participation of David Urdanoz, one of the Masters and pioneers of the 3D in Europe. They made me feel very comfortable there, and besides, I learnt a lot with that 3D Masterclass. Thanks guys. You rock!

Un buen amigo, Rodrigo Ruiz-Tarazona, me invitó a visitar el rodaje de “Los Protegidos“. Tras su tremendo éxito en Antena 3 la temporada pasada, han comenzado el rodaje de la segunda con el gran aliciente de que están rodando en 3D estereoscópico el primer capítulo de la temporada, y que se estrenara en las salas de cine con éxito asegurado.

Lo que pude ver con mis ojos en el nuevo monitor 3D para rodaje era alucinante!. Cuentan con la tecnología de D4D Ingeniería Visual y con la participación en rodaje de David Urdánoz , uno de los maestros y pioneros de la estereoscopia en Europa, que ademas me dio una clase magistral entre risas y buen humor. Muchas gracias a los dos por la invitación.

Spain won the World Cup, and we celebrate it in Columbus Circle in New York, with many Spaniards!

Vaya tela! España ganó el mundial y lo celebramos a lo grande en Columbus Circle en Nueva York con un montón de Españoles.

This year I wanted to have a very American Fourth of July, so following the super fun Guillermo Fesser’s book, I decided to go One thousand miles out of Manhattan, until Rhinebeck. There I enjoyed the fireworks with the soundtrack of the movie Superman, but mostly observing to all Americans living that glorious moment with goose bumps. it was their moment…

Este año decidí que quería vivir un 4 de julio auténtico, así que dejándome guiar por el magnífico libro de Guillermo Fesser, acabé A Cien millas de Manhattan, en Rhinebeck. Allí pude disfrutar de los fuegos artificiales a ritmo de la banda sonora de la película Superman, mientras todos los americanos tenían los pelos como escarpias. Era su momento…

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity of sharing set with Iciar Aragon. She was the DP of the short film Colors, which I directed. It was amazing working with her, because she is really passionate and creative with her work. She suggested me many different looks for the film until we both agreed with the one that would fit better with the story. I really believe that Iciar will have a great future as a DP in Spain, US, or whatever country she decides to work in, because it is not usual to find someone with that level of commitment and devotion.

We shot Colors in 4 days in a Cemetery in New York, with the RED ONE. Pepe Salcedo will be the editor of this short film, that will start going to film festivals next fall. Hopefully it will have a successful round in them.

Hace unas semanas tuve la suerte de compartir set con Iciar Aragon. Ella fue la directora de fotografía de Colors, un cortometraje dónde yo fui el director. Fue genial trabajar con ella, porque tiene pasión y talento en su trabajo. Me hizo un montón de propuestas para el look del corto, hasta que ambos nos decidimos por apostar por  el que vendría mejor a la historia. Estoy convencido que Iciar tendrá una brillante carrera como directora de fotografía en España, US, o cualquier país dónde decida trabajar, porque no es habitual encontrar gente con su nivel de compromiso y entrega.

Rodamos Colors durante 4 días en un cementerio en Nueva York, con la RED ONE. Pepe Salcedo será el editor de este corto que esperamos vea la luz este otoño para empezar la ronda de festivales. Seguro que lo hace muy bien.

Yes, we support Atletico de Madrid. We like suffer a little bit but we have a lot of faith. Some time ago we were lucky to shoot a small project for Sra. Rushmore, that is the publicity agency that makes all the creativity for Atletico commercials, and they are just amazing. Some day we will shoot with them wearing the red & white t-shirt. Go Atleti!!!

Sí, somos del Atleti. Luchadores, sufridores y con mucha, mucha fe. Hace tiempo tuvimos la suerte de trabajar en un proyecto pequeñito para la Agencia Sra. Ruhsmore que es la encargada de llevar a cabo toda la creatividad de las campañas de promoción del Atleti y que son una autentica maravilla. Algún día rodaremos con ellos vestidos de rojiblancos.
